“If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:13, 14)

Plagues are primarily to draw people back to God. Repentance is demanded by God when there’s an outbreak of disease, but today this is not actually always the result because many people have hardened their hearts against the Lord.

The Bible says:

“And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.” (Revelation 9:20-21)

As at March 19 2020 the death toll of Coronavirus is 10,012 out of 244,566 confirmed cases. [1] Whether the virus was created as a biological weapon or not, one thing is needed of us – repentance. The rate at which people are dying should remind us of the vanities of life and all that dwell in this world.

Lets look inward as nations, as a Church, and as individuals and return back to God with a repentant heart.
